What Is Callbreak?

Callbreak — also written as Call Break or Lakdi — is a four-player trick-taking card game that has been a staple of social gatherings across South Asia for generations. It is played with a standard 52-card deck and shares DNA with the classic game of Spades, but carries its own distinct rules around bidding, trumping, and scoring that make it uniquely compelling.

The game is enormously popular across Bangladesh, Nepal, and India, particularly among card enthusiasts in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, and Khulna who grew up playing it at tea stalls and during festival gatherings. At winbw, we have brought this beloved tradition into the digital age — you can now play Callbreak online for real money, competing against players from across Bangladesh from the comfort of your phone or laptop.

Unlike pure luck-based games, Callbreak rewards skill. Your ability to read the table, manage your hand, and commit to the right bid is what separates consistent winners from occasional players. That makes it one of the most satisfying real-money card games available at winbw today.

4 Players

Callbreak is strictly a four-player game. Each player plays individually — there are no permanent partnerships, though alliances shift tactically during play.

52-Card Deck

A full standard deck is used. All 52 cards are dealt — 13 to each player — at the start of every round. No jokers, no wildcards.

Spades Are Trump

In the standard Bangladesh variant, Spades (♠) are always the fixed trump suit. A spade beats any card from any other suit on every single trick.

5 Rounds Per Game

A full game of Callbreak consists of five rounds of bidding and trick-taking. Final scores are tallied after all five rounds and the highest score wins.

How to Play Callbreak

Learning Callbreak takes minutes, but mastering it takes sessions. Here is a step-by-step walkthrough of a complete round.

1

The Deal

One player is designated as the dealer for the round. All 52 cards are shuffled and dealt clockwise, one card at a time, until each of the four players holds exactly 13 cards. Players may look at their own cards but may not show them to opponents.

2

The Bid

Before play begins, each player declares a bid — a whole number between 1 and 13 — representing the minimum number of tricks they commit to winning in this round. Bids must be at least 1. There is no bidding order; each player announces their bid based solely on their own hand assessment.

3

Playing Tricks

The player to the dealer's right leads the first trick by playing any card from their hand. Each subsequent player must follow suit if they can. If a player cannot follow suit, they must play a Spade (trump) if they have one. If they have neither, they may play any card, but it will not win the trick.

4

Winning a Trick

The trick is won by the highest-ranking card of the led suit — unless a Spade has been played, in which case the highest Spade wins. The winner of each trick leads the next one. This continues until all 13 tricks have been played.

5

Scoring

If you meet or exceed your bid, you score exactly the number of tricks you bid (extra tricks above your bid count as 0.1 each in some variants). If you fail to meet your bid, you lose the number of points equal to your bid. After five rounds, the player with the highest cumulative score wins.

Quick Scoring Reference

Scenario Score Effect
Met bid exactly (e.g., bid 4, won 4) +4 points
Exceeded bid (e.g., bid 4, won 6) +4.2 points

Bid 1, won 1 +1 point
Bid 8, won 7 −8 points

Card Rankings & Suits

In Callbreak, card rank within a suit runs from highest to lowest: Ace → King → Queen → Jack → 10 → 9 → 8 → 7 → 6 → 5 → 4 → 3 → 2. Memorising this order is the first step toward accurate bidding.

The four suits in Callbreak are not equal in power. Spades (♠) hold a permanent trump status — a 2 of Spades beats an Ace of Hearts. The three non-trump suits (Hearts ♥, Diamonds ♦, Clubs ♣) are equal in power; a card only beats others within its own led suit.

Understanding the interplay between led suit, trump suit, and rank is the single most important concept in Callbreak. A player who instinctively knows which card wins each trick will bid more accurately and lose far fewer points to failed bids.

Suit Power Hierarchy

Spades — Trump Suit
Beats all other suits on any trick
Trump
Hearts — Non-Trump
Wins only when led or followed in suit
Diamonds — Non-Trump
Wins only when led or followed in suit
Clubs — Non-Trump
Wins only when led or followed in suit
Ace of Spades — Highest Trump

The single most powerful card in Callbreak. It beats every other card in the deck without exception and is almost guaranteed to win any trick it is played in.

King / Queen / Jack of Spades

High-value trump cards. Each beats any non-Spade regardless of rank, and beats all lower Spades. Essential for controlling the game in late rounds.

Mid & Low Spades (2–10)

Still trump — still beat any Heart, Diamond, or Club. Even the 2 of Spades takes a trick led by the Ace of Hearts if no higher Spade is played.

Ace of Hearts / Diamonds / Clubs

The highest card in its non-trump suit. Wins any trick led in that suit unless a Spade is played. A reliable source of sure tricks in your bid calculation.

King & Queen of Non-Trump Suits

Potentially strong but vulnerable. They win within their suit unless a player voids that suit and overtrumps with a Spade — a common trap for beginners.

Low Non-Trump Cards (2–9)

Generally not bidding material on their own, but can win tricks in the right context — particularly if opponents have run out of the led suit and cannot overtrump.

Strategy Tips for Winning at Callbreak

The difference between a winning player and a losing one at winbw's Callbreak tables often comes down to a handful of habits. Study these and apply them from your very first session.

# Strategy Why It Works Skill Level
1 Count Your Sure Tricks Before Bidding Aces and high Spades are almost always guaranteed wins. Count these first, then consider conditional tricks from Kings and Queens. Beginner
2 Never Bid Zero — Always Bid At Least 1 The minimum bid is 1. Even a weak hand typically has at least one winning trick. A failed bid of even 1 point stings more than it should — commit carefully. Beginner
3 Conserve High Spades for Critical Moments Playing your Ace of Spades early wins one trick but surrenders future trump control. Hold it until opponents begin aggressively trumping your led suits. Intermediate
4 Lead With Your Long Suit First If you hold 5 Hearts, leading Hearts forces opponents to exhaust their Hearts early — voiding them sooner and making your remaining Hearts more likely to take tricks via your Spade overtrumps. Intermediate
5 Track Which Suits Opponents Are Void In Once an opponent fails to follow suit on a Hearts lead, you know they are void in Hearts. Avoid leading Hearts against that player — they will simply overtrump with a Spade every time. Intermediate
6 Underbid Slightly in Early Rounds In rounds 1 and 2, a cautious bid lets you gather information about opponents' play styles before you need to commit to aggressive bids in later rounds. Advanced
7 Sacrifice a Trick Strategically If winning a trick forces you to lead into a vulnerable position, deliberately losing it can give you control of the lead at a more advantageous moment in the hand. Advanced
8 Watch the Running Score Before Bidding In round 4 or 5, a player trailing by many points may bid aggressively. If you can anticipate a desperate opponent over-bidding, you can place a safer bid and bank steady points. Advanced

Callbreak FAQ

Everything you need to know before sitting down at a winbw Callbreak table.

Yes. winbw offers real-money Callbreak tables at multiple stake levels, all denominated in Bangladeshi Taka (৳). You need a verified account and a minimum deposit of ৳100 via bKash or Nagad to join a cash table. Practice tables with virtual chips are also available if you want to sharpen your game before playing for real money.

Callbreak is always a four-player game. At winbw, you are matched with three other real players from Bangladesh. If a table does not fill immediately, the system may seat an AI placeholder temporarily — but all cash-table hands are played with four human participants. You are never playing a full cash session against bots.

winbw uses the standard South Asian variant where Spades (♠) are the fixed trump suit for the entire game. This does not change between rounds. A 2 of Spades will beat an Ace of Hearts, Diamonds, or Clubs on any trick. This fixed-trump rule is the same across all stake levels on the platform.

Withdrawals to bKash are typically processed within 1 to 12 hours after your request is approved. First-time withdrawals require a one-time identity verification check, which our support team completes within 2 hours during business hours. Once verified, subsequent withdrawals are processed much faster. There is no platform fee for bKash withdrawals at winbw.

If your connection drops during a hand, winbw's system holds your seat for up to 60 seconds. If you reconnect within that window, you rejoin the hand in progress exactly where you left off. If you do not reconnect in time, the system plays the lowest valid card automatically on your behalf to keep the game moving. Your session balance is not affected by disconnections unless you fail to return and the hand is completed without you.

Yes. You must be 18 years of age or older to register and play at winbw. This applies to all games on the platform, including Callbreak, slots, cricket betting, and live casino tables.
